The selection process is overseen by a committee composed not only of Exchange Club members but also influential figures from the civic and social sectors. Once the honorees are chosen, a comprehensive written explanation of the reasons for their selection and a biographical profile should be shared with the local news media. Every effort should be made to ensure that the selections and award presentations receive ample publicity.

Crime and Fire Prevention have constituted a significant facet of Exchange’s mission since the 1940s. From its inception, Exchange’s program for crime and fire prevention has garnered the support of almost every U.S. President and numerous esteemed figures in law enforcement. Most Exchange clubs launch their anti-crime initiatives in October, during National Crime Prevention Month.
